Urgent Tips for Manufactured Housing Professionals in Isaac's Path ...

Tropical Storm Isaac entered the Gulf of Mexico early Monday staying on a northwesterly track away from the Florida peninsula, but eerily similar to Katrina?s in 2005. According to the National Hurricane Center Isaac is expected to be a hurricane in a day or so before it hits land fall. Despite being much weaker than the devastating storm seven years ago, thousands along the Gulf Coast in states such as Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana are following evacuation plans developed in the wake of Katrina, whose seventh anniversary coincides with Isaac?s arrival. To minimize your loss as retailers, businesses, communities and residents of manufactured homes, Kurt D. Kelley, loss mitigation expert, attorney, and President of Mobile Insurance offers ten tips for those in Isaac?s path: 1) single section homes not lot set should have the air let out of the tires; 2) homes should be moved closer to wind breaks if possible, but away from large trees; 3) Unsecured property should be moved inside or secured. Dead or untrimmed trees should be trimmed/removed. For the remainder of the tips, please click here.

Spherical glass lens concentrates sunlight by up to 10,000 times, boosts solar cell efficiency

Eking out more power from solar cells is an ongoing challenge for scientists, and now architect André Broessel has developed a spherical glass energy generator that's said to improve efficiency by 35 percent. Acting as a lens, the rig's large water-filled orb concentrates diffused daylight or moonlight onto a solar cell with the help of optical tracking to harvest electricity. In certain configurations, the apparatus can be used for solar thermal energy generation and even water heating. In addition to the oversized globe, Broessel has cooked up a mobile version of the contraption for domestic use and an array of much smaller ball lenses with dual-axis tracking that offers 40 percent efficiency. These devices aren't the first venture into concentrated photovoltaics, but they are likely among the most visually impressive. If the Barcelona-based architect's vision of the future comes true, you'll be seeing these marbles incorporated into buildings and serving as standalone units. Isaac: Good news and bad news ? Greg Laden's Blog

The good news, if you see Hurricanes as bad, is that Isaac did not turn into a hurricane over night and is having trouble getting its act together. This has caused estimates of the hurricane?s maximum strength at the time of land fall to be reduced. Isaac will be a serious storm when it plows into the southern US coast but it will not be an Ivan, Katrina or Andrew.

The bad news is that the predicted track has moved even farther west, so the forward right quadrant, the ?Right Punch? of the hurricane, may very well hit New Orleans at a very bad angle and position.

Official: Former Gov. Crist To Speak At DNC ? CBS Charlotte

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? President Barack Obama gave Charlie Crist a hug. Mitt Romney gave him $1 million. Apparently the hug meant more to Crist.

The former Republican governor confirmed Monday that he will be speaking at the Democratic National Convention next week in Charlotte, N.C. It?s news that comes as Republicans hold their convention to nominate Romney as their presidential candidate ? an event being held across Tampa Bay from Crist?s St. Petersburg home.

?I think so much of what the president has done and the good he?s tried to do for Florida,? Crist said.

He cited the efforts to help the Gulf Coast states after the BP oil spill and money that the president tried to steer to Florida for a bullet train, which Gov. Rick Scott rejected.

?On issue after issue after issue, he?s proven himself as the kind of person who?s willing to work across the aisle for the betterment of the people.?

Crist left the party in 2010 after declaring he would run for the U.S. Senate as an independent. He was chased from the Republican primary after falling behind eventual winner Marco Rubio in the polls. Rubio overcame a disadvantage in money and support with a message that Crist was not a true conservative ? a strategy that was punctuated with a photo of Crist embracing Obama at a 2009 rally to push for the $787 billion federal stimulus package.

In 2006, Romney, then the Massachusetts governor, gave Crist a $1 million check from the Republican Governors Association to help Crist?s gubernatorial campaign.

Crist on Sunday endorsed Obama.

At a Republican Party of Florida breakfast for convention delegates in Palm Harbor on Monday, incoming House Speaker Will Weatherford mocked Crist. He mentioned Tropical Storm Isaac, then said, ?Speaking of winds blowing and people shifting positions, the Florida Republican Party had a former member of the Republican Party by the name of Charlie Crist.?

The delegates booed.

?I knew that hugs could be powerful, but I really just had no idea until yesterday,? Weatherford said.

Also at the breakfast, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam criticized Crist for thinking of his own political career first.

?He?ll wear any costume just to get in the parade,? Putnam said.

Crist said he anticipated the criticism.

?I didn?t expect them to be jumping for joy,? he said. Crist also said he is not thinking about his party registration right now, but is thinking only about what is in the best interest of the country.

Crist is not registered with either party, but there has been widespread speculation that he will try to make a political comeback as a Democrat and possibly challenge his Republican successor, Scott. That speculation has increased as his wife, Carole, changed her voter registration from Republican to Democrat and after he said he would support Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson?s re-election campaign over Rep. Connie Mack IV. Now, there?s the Obama endorsement and a speaking role at the nominating convention.

Crist has criticized his former party for going too far to the right. As a governor, he was known for being a populist who would welcome Democrats in his office as much as Republicans. He also angered Republicans by vetoing high-priority GOP bills on education and abortion restrictions.

Seattle names Russell Wilson starting QB

Pete Carroll and John Schneider were overjoyed during the April NFL draft when the Seattle Seahawks were able to grab Russell Wilson in the third round.

Even they couldn't anticipate that Wilson would be the Seahawks' Week 1 starter.

But that was the word from Carroll on Sunday night after he announced the undersized, but highly successful rookie quarterback from Wisconsin will be the starter when the regular season begins Sept. 9 at Arizona.

"It's been a very exciting competition that has gone on and Russell has taken full advantage of his opportunities and has done everything that we have asked for on the field and more than what you guys could know off the field in meeting rooms and with our players and how he's represented. He's earned this job," Carroll said on a conference call Sunday night. "It was a legitimate competition as we said from the beginning and with the opportunity he's taken advantage of he deserves to start."

Wilson has been a dynamic star during the preseason. For the first two weeks, his performance came against backups during the second halves of victories over Tennessee and Denver.

But what Wilson displayed during those two halves were enough for Carroll to give him the start Friday night against Kansas City. Wilson's response: 13-of-19 passing for 185 yards, two touchdowns and a passer rating of 134.8. And if he didn't show enough with his arm, Wilson added another 58 yards rushing.

The performance had Seattle fans buzzing and most accepting the idea that Wilson would be the starter. Carroll said Wilson took the news in stride.

"He expects to be good and he expects to be successful and he expects to make plays," Carroll said.

Wilson being named the starter leaves Matt Flynn on the sidelines and according to Carroll understandably disappointed. Flynn was Seattle's big free-agent splash in the offseason and the most highly sought after quarterback not named Manning after spending the last few seasons as Aaron Rodgers backup in Green Bay. But Flynn failed to show the same flashes as Wilson during his two preseason opportunities and sat out the game in Kansas City with a sore elbow.

Flynn's injury isn't considered to be severe, but sitting out against the Chiefs didn't help his case for the job.

"I'm disappointed for him too because I know how much he wants it," Carroll said.

Isaac casts shadow over GOP convention, campaign

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? Undaunted by Mother Nature, Republicans are set to descend on Florida as Mitt Romney's team works to cram four days of events into three after the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac forced the soon-to-be nominee to cut short his national convention.

Officials say they hope to begin laying out a revised schedule on Sunday.

As aides in Tampa scramble, Romney is taking a rare day off the campaign trail at his lakeside vacation home in New Hampshire, receiving updates on the storm and making final preparations for the Thursday speech with which he will accept his party's presidential nomination.

"The safety of those in Isaac's path is of the utmost importance," Romney tweeted after Republican officials announced they had called off Monday's convention proceedings.

Because of possible storm surges and flooding Isaac could bring, convention organizers said they were making contingency plans to move delegates who have been booked into beachfront hotels to other locations if necessary. They indicated the schedule shift also was meant to prevent overburdening emergency response personnel at the height of the storm.

The GOP made the announcement late Saturday, saying that while the convention would officially be gaveled into session on Monday as scheduled, events would be postponed until Tuesday.

With Isaac boring down on the coast, President Barack Obama, who was spending the weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland, dispatched the Federal Emergency Management Agency to establish a command center and move more resources into the state. Vice President Joe Biden scrapped a planned campaign trip into Florida that was to counter the start of the GOP convention.

Republicans hope to use this week's convention to cast Romney as a determined leader with the know-how to fix the country's economy. They also want to introduce him as a family oriented figure to counter the image of him as a ruthless businessman as Democrats have sought to brand him.

Romney and his wife, Ann, looked to show off the more personal side with a joint interview airing Sunday.

"I wish everyone could see him how I see him, because as a mother, I've seen him, how compassionate he's been with me, as a wife and my raising these small children and how he always valued my work as being more important than his," Ann Romney said in the "Fox News Sunday" interview taped at the family's summer home in New Hampshire.

The candidate described his wife as his "best friend, obviously, and my counselor throughout my life," according to an advance transcript.

While the Romneys reveled in their convention, Obama was due to travel next week to college towns in Iowa, Colorado and Virginia to court young voters and college students. The president's nomination for a desired second term was to come a week later in Charlotte, N.C., during a Democratic convention beginning Sept. 4, right on the heels of the Republican convention.

In an interview with The Associated Press published Saturday, Obama sought to portray Romney as someone beholden to "extreme positions" on economic and social issues. Obama took pains to paint Romney and his running mate, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, as ideologues at a time when voters seem frustrated by government gridlock.

After a near-constant travel schedule since he was announced as the GOP vice presidential candidate, Ryan was also taking a rare break. Following a Saturday evening fundraiser in Manchester, N.H., he returned home to Janesville, Wis. Aides said Ryan planned a quiet Sunday. Then, before flying to Florida, he was to appear at a Monday rally in his hometown that was likely to offer him a hero's sendoff.

A few of Romney's former presidential rivals were holding events of their own in Tampa. Herman Cain and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann ? both have endorsed Romney ? were appearing at a joint event. Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who hasn't conferred his blessing on the presumptive nominee, was anticipating thousands at a University of South Florida rally.

Game of the Week: Metal Gear Solid | Video Games, Reviews ...

This 1998 release was not the first in the illustrious franchise, yet it was indubitably the game that bore its burgeoning acclaim. This stealth ?em up retains its lofty position amongst the very pinnacle of the Playstation?s output; indeed Metal Gear Solid is still a frequent bastion of Greatest Games Ever Made lists. Let?s take a machete of illumination/mockery to the roots of this prodigious reputation.

The plot finds Solid Snake, infiltrator extraordinaire, dispatched to Alaska to quell a formidable uprising at a nuclear weapons disposal facility. The perpetrators are composed of the erstwhile special forces unit, FOXHOUND. Liquid Snake, their kingpin and our primary antagonist, presents demands to the government in lieu of A SURELY RATHER PAINFUL NUCLEAR CONFLAGRATION IN THEIR FACES. (?Hey ma! Where are the band-aids? That hairy guy with the hideous English accent dropped another nuclear bomb on my head.?) They aren?t being facetious either, whiling away an overcast afternoon with prank phonecalls or shenanigans of that nature. FOXHOUND possess Metal Gear REX, a gargantuan bipedal battle-bot capable of the aforementioned nuclear ravaging.
In summation, it?s spare underpants time.

Particularly so for solitary soldier Solid Snake, entrenched in the facility with only belligerent guards and moronic voices in his Codec for company. The manner in which our protagonist undertakes his endeavours makes for nigh-unprecedented gameplay; clandestine creepings and the oft-ballyhooed tactical espionage action are your modus operandi. Hiding in corners, befuddling surveillance cameras with chaff grenades and surrepticiously ensconcing yourself in a cardboard box are some of the stealthy shenanigans that await for your delectation. In tandem with the ubiquitous Soliton radar, these are refreshing concepts indeed in a trigger-happy age. This isn?t to say you won?t accrue a vast myriad of ballistics (seemingly concealed somewhere in that skin-tight Sneaking Suit of yours) through the course of Metal Gear Solid. Indeed, you can gleefully engage in such wanton sadism as ?guard hunting? with a surface-to-air missile launcher should the whim take you. Yet this is not, as is surely plain, the optimum manner of executing a strictly sub rosa operation. Tactical is indeed le mot juste.

Metal Gear Solid Screenshot

As a yarn, the story is exquisitely convoluted, belied by a wonderful cinematic flair; as is the wont of Hideo Kojima. You will clamor to discover who is betraying who, why that gargantuan shaman is cruising around a snowfield in a tank, why Deepthroat is entreatying you to propel a self-guided missile at a fusebox (and, further, how he knows THERE ARE CLAYMORE MINES AROUND THERE!) and suchlike. Who is that cyborg ninja? Why would he relinquish that lightsabre of his, only to employ a far more strenuous series of crotch-thrusting gymnastic proclivities in a theatrical attempt to punch our face?

Raconteurs still compose enamoured odes to the motley menagerie of boss encounters; encompassing helicopters, ricocheting bullets besetting an old dude, huge manbeasts patrolling a frozen warehouse (merrily hefting an aircraft?s gatling gun as though it were a mere child?s tricycle) and other anomalous wonderment. A truly seminal release, and a testament to the mantra that quality is timeless.
